Tanaka (Haifa, Israel): Adi Snir, saxofon Roni Brenner, gitarre Michel Mayer, gitarre Ofer Bymel, drums&percussion + Heiner Metzger, soundtable Michael Maierhof, cello Birgit Ulher, trumpet Tanaka Tanaka is an improvised music group working and playing together for over four years. Working with many musicians from Israel and all over the world, this group has become an exemplar for improvised music. Each of the musicians has contributed his own unique sound through regular collaboration over the past 4 years. This gives the group a distinctive, tight sound as a whole. The group has recorded four records to date; three of them have already been released. Tanaka has preformed all over Israel and is now on their way to its first international tour in Germany. Adi Snir Born in 1987; started keyboard studies at the age of 4; violin at 7; guitar at 9 and saxophone at the age of 12. Has been playing saxophone ever since and various other wind instruments. As a child he played mainly classical music, but since the saxophone became his main instrument he started playing jazz, through free jazz and moving on to improvised music. One of the leading musicians in the Israeli Improvised and experimental music scene. Roni Brenner Born in 1986; Started guitar studies at the age of 12, composition at the age of 18. Has been active in improvised music and experimental music for many years. Studying music and theatre at the Haifa University. One of the organizers of the improvised music concert series at the Pyramida - Center for Contemporary Art in Haifa, Israel, and of The Tel Aviv Meetings - a series of free jazz / improvised music concerts - held at Hagada Hasmalit, Tel Aviv, Israel. Michel Mayer Born in France in 1964; Michel has been playing guitar since '82. Michel is an active artist and teacher who has widely performed in the fields of Jazz, Free-Jazz and Improvised Music, and is currently a member of the Improvised Music group Tanaka. Has been studying composition for the past 5 years. One of the organizers of the improvised music concert series at the Pyramida - Center for Contemporary Art in Haifa, Israel, and of The Tel Aviv Meetings - a series of free jazz / improvised music concerts - held at Hagada Hasmalit, Tel Aviv, Israel. Ofer Bymel Born in 1984; at age 8 started piano studies, and at age 14 started to play the drums. Has been active in improvised music, free jazz and experimental music for many years, and is one of the leading improvisers in Israel.
