Easel Christoph Erb - reeds Fred Lonberg-Holm - cello, guitar Michael Zerang - percussion Michael Zerang was born in Chicago, Illinois, and is a first-generation American of Assyrian decent. He has been a professional musician, composer, and producer since 1976, focusing extensively on improvised music, free jazz, contemporary composition, puppet theater, experimental theater, and international musical forms.Michael has collaborated with contemporary theater, dance, and other multidisciplinary forms and has received three Joseph Jefferson Awards for Original Music Composition in Theater, in collaboration with Redmoon Theater, in 1996, 1998, and 2000.As a percussionist and composer, Michael has over eighty titles in his discography and has toured nationally and internationally to 34 countries since 1981, and works with and ever-widening pool of collaborators.Michael founded and was the artistic director of the Link’s Hall Performance Series in Chicago from 1985-1989 where he produced over 300 concerts of jazz, traditional ethnic folk music, electronic music, and other forms of forward thinking music. Michael has been a Board Member of Links Hall Since 1989. He continued to produce concerts at Cafe Urbus Orbis from 1994-1996, and at his own space, The Candlestick Maker in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood, from 2001 – 2005. Chicago based cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm has played and studied music in a variety of situations from the Juilliard School to the gutter. A former student of Anthony Braxton, Morton Feldman, Bunita Marcus and Pauline Oliveros, his primary projects are his Valentine Trio and The Lightbox Orchestra. He is also a member of a number of ongoing collective projects (The Boxhead Ensemble, The Friction Brothers with Michaels Zerang and Colligan, The Flatlands Collective, Keefe Jackson’s Fast Citizens) as well as participating in numerous one off “ad-hoc” or in frequently convening ensembles. He also currently plays in groups led by Joe McPhee (Survival Unit III), Peter Brötzmann (Chicago 10tet), and Ken Vandermark (Vandermark 5, Frame 4tet, Territory Ensemble). Improvisors he has worked with include Jim Baker, John Butcher, Wilbert DeJoode, Axel Doerner, Mats Gustafsson, Charlotte Hug, Glenn Kotche, Peter Kowald, Nicole Mitchell, Torsten Muller, Jim O’Rourke, Jeff Parker, David Stakenas, Ben Vida, and Michael Zerang, He has contributed cello sounds to numerous recording projects by rock groups including Califone, Freakwater, God-is-my-co-pilot, L’altra, Smog, Super Chunk, US Maple, Wilco and many others. Christoph Erb, (tenor saxophone / bass clarinet ) is improviser and music presenter born 1973 in Zurich, Switzerland. He currently lives in Lucerne, Switzerland.He performs regularly in Europe and the U.S with many musicians including: Jim Baker, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Michael Zerang, Jason Roebke, Jason Adasciewicz, Josh Berman, Keefe Jackson, Tomeka Reid, Frank Rosaly, Nate Wooley, Jamie Branch, Jeb Bishop, Paul Lovens, Hans Koch, Urs Leimgruber, Martin Schütz, Christy Doran, Daniel Humair, Peter Schärli, Frantz Loriot, Julian Sartorius, Hans-Peter Pfammatter, Christian Weber, Christian Wohlfart and many others, He played several tours in Europe, USA and Southamerika.In 2007 he has formed his own Label veto-records, and 2011 after a four month residence in Chicago the sublabel for improvised music veto-exchange.2012 he received the Culture Award from the City of Lucerne.
