During a post-graduate course at the same academy hedecided to dedicate his work to sound and music. His musical activities date back to the earlyeighties when he started THU20, together with Jac van Bussel, Peter Duimelinks, JosSmolders and Guido Doesborg. THU20 have released several tapes and CD's and performedregularly in Europe. The working method of THU20 included many discussions about how tocompose and why. This period was crucial in forming his ideas and concepts about soundand how to organise it, but it was not until the mid nineties that he was able to fully realisethese ideas. The purchase of a sampler and later a computer radically changed hispossibilities of working with sound, offering infinitely more control and freedom. Since then hehas worked steadily on a body of work, most of which was recieved enthusiastically in thesmall but dedicated world of sound art. His other activities include working with KapotteMuziek and GOEM and organising sound events, mostly in Rotterdam. Aside from releases,Meelkop also creates site-specific sound installations and performance pieces in collaborationwith other artists. http://www.r0m.nl JOHN BUTCHER John Butcher’s music ranges through free improvisation, composition, multitracked saxophone pieces and work with live electronics, amplification and feedback. He is well known as a solo performer, releasing 5 CDs of solo music, and has composed pieces for Chris Burn's Ensemble, Polwechsel and Rova Saxophone Quartet. He started playing the saxophone whilst studying physics, but left academia in 1982 (after finishing a doctorate on charmed quarks) and went off with music - working with Chris Burn, John Russell, Phil Durrant, Paul Lovens and Radu Malfatti. He joined, in 1991, what became the final version of John Stevens’ Spontaneous Music Ensemble; played for over a decade with Derek Bailey, and has worked in many contexts with singer Phil Minton, bassist John Edwards and various US musicians - such as Gerry Hemingway, Gino Robair, and Fred Lonberg-Holm. Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to saxophone playing, and became explicit in his electromanipulation duo with Phil Durrant, and, more recently, in duos with Christof Kurzmann and Toshimaru Nakamura.Other current groups include Thermal with EX guitarist Andy Moor & Thomas Lehn, Polwechsel, The Contest of Pleasures with Axel Doerner and Xavier Charles, and duos with Steve Beresford, Rhodri Davies, Paal Nilssen-Love and Eddie Prevost.Butcher continues to play in many occasional, sometimes just one-off encounters - ranging from large groups such as Butch Morris’ London Skyscraper, Radu Malfatti’s Orkestra and the EX Orkestra, to duo concerts with Fred Frith, Akio Suzuki, Matthews, Paul Lovens and Otomo Yoshihide.http://www.johnbutcher.org.uk DJ LENAR (Warschau):Part of the polish underground label LadoABC.
