With this project we want to re-contextualize the music through its dance element, and take it a step further by involving contemporary dancers and choreographers to create new modern interpretations to the music from the project. The first phase of the project tookplace in Uganda around the Nyege Nyege Festival 2022 with residencies before and after the festival as well as artists’ shows and debates at the festival. Further phases will take place in 2023 in Germany at the CTM festival in Berlin, at MS Stubnitz in Hamburg, at Festsaal Kreuzberg for the closing Afropollination event in June 2023 and with a partnership with Cosmo Radio (Cologne). Definition: “Pollination is the transfer of pollen later enabling fertilization and the production of seeds, most often by an animal or by wind.” ***** ***** ***** BLOOMFELD, Germany, Producer: Bloomfeld is researching and documenting innovative momentums across all domains of cultural production. His own music, digital art, and performance aim at expanding the intersection of ethno-futurist braindance and functional/hedonistic club heat. While allowing for the heads to over-intellectualise, Bloomfeld’s output often exposes what comes out of the speakers as just wiggly air after all. Existence is a cosmic joke. Bloomfeld runs the Overthinker Mob research imprint, among many other missions “rejecting conventional formats for releasing music“ (FACT Mag) by „putting out unfinished or “overthought” music from artists anonymously“ (Resident Advisor) – Compiling „a diverse range of anti-ego club tunes and somber atmospheres“ (Electronic Beats). He has been a founding member of multiple community radio projects in Germany and the UK, and held a residency on Rinse FM with his “Culture vs. Reality“ show. Phatstoki is known for her surgical transitions and her ability to mix a range of sounds, reading the room to get your body moving! Phatstoki is the co-founder of P*ssy Party, a night that exists to create a regular platform for queer, femme and women DJs/artists to practice, incubate, exchange, and expose. She has since received acclaim from local press such as Bubblegum Club (cover featue) and Between 10and5. P*ssy Party has steadily grown its stature in the city, in large part on the back of Phatstoki’s clear insights and masterful, moving DJ sets. The team has since hosted parties in Durban and Cape Town, and collaborated with international acts, providing workshops for those eager to learn. Phatstoki has played at some of the world’s most favoured music events/festivals such as OppiKoppi, Basha Uhuru, Zakifo, CTM Festival, Nyege Nyege, and AfroPunk to name a few. Phatstoki has graced 5 Boiler Room sets with her work. She closed for M.I.A during her South African tour, and DJed for highly acclaimed and multi award winning musician; Sho Madjozi for a ittle over 3 yeras. With a powerful ethical core and far-reaching vision of her peers and the future, Phatstoki is luminary in her various and overlapping fields of interest. Hailing from the Umlazi township of Durban in South Africa, he rose to prominence as a member of the Infamous Boiz, whose influence can be heard in clubs across the world. As a producer, he has supplied beats for some of South Africa’s biggest acts, such as Moonchild Sanelly, Mahotella Queens, Zolani Mahola and Zakes Bantwini. By diverging from the genre's usual track structure and arrangements, Menzi has crafted a unique sound exploring Gqom textures, as shown on his EP Impazamo, recently released by Nyege Nyege’s Hakuna Kulala. While Debmaster had a lot of fun playing live with his noisy friends in Berlin (Jason Forrest, Patric Catani, Chris Imler & others "crazy people"). His 2015 encounter with the overactive Nyege Nyege scene was the perfect outlet when they invited him to send "some beats" for artists who were recording weekly in a DIY recording studio in Kampala. Mc Yallah and him started to work together around 2018 for the first EP Ndi Mukazi, quickly followed by Kubali. He now produces music every day, mainly for Hakuna Kulala and Mc Yallah. He is also behind releases of Ecko Bazz (Mmaso), Biga yut (Walah), Will'stone (Mbv5) and more to come...
