Hörbar: Saṅkhāra

Hörbar: Saṅkhāra Doors 19:00, 20:00 “Saṅkhāra” is a concept figuring prominently in Buddhism, which means “formations, phenomena, or coming to form, together”. Saṅkhāra Ensemble embodies and plays with this sense of “arising and coming together” by weaving together the visual with the sonic - extempore incantation with free improvisation. Saṅkhāra Ensemble: Hania Mariam Luthufi (Sri Lanka/ voice, tanpura, swaramandal, bells ) Milena Hoge (Germany/harp), Quincy Saul (USA/clarinet), Jan G. Lüeterig (Germany/double bass), Chad Popple (USA/tabla Julia Langenbucher (Germany/ saxophones) Jonathan Kay (Canada/Esraj, shakuhachi) Incantations in the form of spoken word-song weaves into free and raga improvisation invoking a spirit of collective, abstract devotion. By spontaneous (cue/gesture/prompt based) arrangements of ourselves into duos, trios, quartets and quintets allows the dynamics of our sound to subside and swell into thick walls. By playing within the freedom of multi-lingual wordplay and multicultural instruments we draw from the creative power of diversity to create an ever-morphing world-sound that is both idiosyncratic and unified.
