The Well and the Gentle

Hamburg debut! The Well and the Gentle is a vocal concert project featuring soprano Nina Guo and keyboardists Jacob Greenberg and Joseph Houston. MIDI, Indian harmonium, and acoustic piano are the keyboards, reframing the format of a vocal recital around new works. A 2026-2027 tour of Hamburg, Munich, Köln and Berlin includes German premieres of pieces by Dai Fujikura, Katherine Balch, Wang Lu, and IONE, as well as two world premieres by Zeynep Toraman and Joseph Houston. The group’s title is taken from a work by Pauline Oliveros, a mentor and inspiration to the performers. „The Well and the Gentle“ ist ein Vokalmusikprojekt mit der Sopranistin Nina Guo sowie den Keyboardern Jacob Greenberg und Joseph Houston. Zum Einsatz kommen MIDI-Instrumente, ein indisches Harmonium und ein akustisches Klavier; diese Instrumentierung interpretiert das Format des Liederabends im Kontext neuer Werke völlig neu. Eine für die Spielzeit 2026/27 geplante Tournee durch Hamburg, München, Köln und Berlin umfasst deutsche Erstaufführungen von Werken von Dai Fujikura, Katherine Balch, Wang Lu und IONE sowie zwei Uraufführungen von Zeynep Toraman und Joseph Houston. Der Name des Ensembles stammt von einem Werk der Komponistin Pauline Oliveros, die den Interpreten als Mentorin und Inspirationsquelle diente.
