Bebawinigi + Bitch 'n' Monk
Bitch 'n' Monk first met in a tent and began collaborating musically within a few hours. Improvisers and non-conformists by nature they shared a love for jazz and differed dangerously on politics. Epic night bus debates and public arguments in paris were resolved or explored through playing, improvising and composing together and the result is music both spiritual and raw.
Angular melodies and seemingly irrational harmony may come from nights listening to Prokofiev and Wayne Shorter, or just from a shared fetish for the tritone. Inexplicable groove on the strangest of bar lengths might reflect their affinity with West African rhythms, or just a belief that anything - however bizarre - can be spectacular if played with commitment and energy.
'Exquisite. A Kaleidoscope of musical forms'
– BBC Radio 3
'One bite of this will send you into a lovesick coma and give yoeu an electrifying kiss of life all at once'
– The Quietus
'In the intriguing Anglo-Colombian duo Bitch 'n' Monk Mauricio Velasierra plays assorted flutes, Heiidi Heidelberg plays guitar, sings and beatboxes, while the two transform their sound into junkyard electronica through the ingenious use of looping pedals. You'll spend a while pondering how to classify them. Prog folk? Operatic post-punk? Goth-reggae? But they know how to write melodies.'
– The Guardian
Post-rock, punk, ethno-jazz, experimental, opera

..is the ungraceful, awkward, grotesque, silly, dramatically imperfect being that lives within us all. Bebawinigi is an artistic and musical experimentation. Her use of the voice with its wide tonal properties, registers, colors and styles. Her use of the verbal language, in order to search and explore an invented language, a personal grammelot. Her anarchic use of conventional instruments, as well as common objects that produce peculiar sounds. Her fusion of a wide range of genres - spanning from grunge to new wave, from psychedelia to punk, from industrial to noise – with electronic, blues, jazz, folk and classical.
All this combines the theatrical and imaginative approach of live performance, as well as the video clips visual experimentation.
